People Hack
Day 2022
Company-wide hack days are a great opportunity for our team to plug in on cross-functional projects that can impact the company. But, we want to create a space for our extremely talented team to dig in and focus on innovating, specifically within the People “world.”
Additionally, the company-wide hack day can be a little intimidating to less technical folks, and carving out dedicated time for our team to participate in a People-specific one, will hopefully even encourage more participation in future company-wide Hack Days.
Within the scope + influence of the People Team, we’re asking you all to brainstorm, ideate and build/present a proposal that “defies expectations” at Mercury within one of the below themes:

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Manager Enablement and Partnership
We encourage you to think critically and get innovative. No idea is too big or too small. If looking for inspiration, we’ve provided the below brainstorms that have taken place across the People Team over the past few months:
People Hack Day Prompt
In addition to team preferences, we also wanted to intentionally bring together individuals from across the different parts of our People Team to work towards these HackDay projects. All individuals assigned to the same theme will be added to a private slack channel to begin hacking as they see fit!
As mentioned below, at minimum, there should be one project per theme to showcase during our People Team HackDay Showcase, however, individuals can decide to work individually, in pairs, or in small groups within their theme!

We're asking for all members of the People Team to get involved in the People Hack Day at some level
We’ll create hackday Slack channels per theme to announce what theme you’ve been assigned + get the brainstorm + conversations rolling.
Please note, folks assigned to the same theme can opt in to working on a theme-wide project or an individual/smaller group project.
We encourage the entire team to really take this time to step back and tackle those “back-burner” ideas you haven’t had the time to get to in partnership with other folks on the team.
With that being said, we recognize that individuals will have varying levels of ability to engage given high priority projects or roles, as well as time out of office. Please discuss directly with your manager if there are timing concerns!
Timeline
Leading up to the People HackDay, once your themes have been assigned, you’re encouraged to start brainstorming or thinking about what direction you or your team could work on.
People HackDay itself will take place on November 1st + November 2nd. You should have a calendar hold already!
Out of Office? No worries - it’s inevitable that not everybody will be online as we were planning this. We’ll be creating the slack channels per theme well in advance so conversations can begin and you can still have some input on ideas your team can work on!
We’ll be moving our People Team MMM to November 10th to allow for us to share our projects with our guest judges!
Each project will have time to present + demo to the judges what they created during People Hack Day. We’ll provide more details + format expectations as this gets closer!
Judging
We’ll announce our guest judges closer to the event, but we are planning on bringing in a few of our Exec team members to weigh in on the projects!
